The 77-foot clipper-built
schooner Amistad transports slaves in the Caribbean. The
slaves revolt and take over the ship. |

The "Schooner in the
Sand" is wrecked and washes ashore in Lake Michigan near the
Millecoquins River at Naubinway. |
| 1851 |
The America, a racing
schooner-yacht, beat 16 English schooners in a race authorized by
Britain's Queen Victoria. The America's Cup yacht race is named for
this boat. |
| 1906 |
Gale winds drive the La
Rabida, a 75-foot schooner built in 1876 ashore near Naubinway
with a cargo of 10,000 Christmas trees on November 25. The crew
survives the wreck and a frigid night on the beach. |
| 1880s-1920 |
Steam-driven ships replace
ships with sails. By the early 20th century, most schooner-rigged
vessels were yachts, not working boats. |
