WHAT WILL CHANGE?
Discovery Center
Our plan is to convert the existing auditorium into a more versatile
Discovery Center. There, children will learn and play; interpreters will
present public programs; and community groups can host meetings and
receptions. [MAP of proposed floor plan]
Changing Exhibits
The building addition will create more exhibit space. At last, the
Yankee will have an indoor home worthy of such a rare artifact, and the
museum will be able to offer changing exhibits.
Reference Library
Researchers may examine copies of the photographs, maps and records
collected about the iron ranges.
Trail to the Forge
A trail will lead across the Carp River to the place where Michigan's
iron industry was born. Signs will mark and interpret the forge, the kilns
and other archaeological discoveries.
Parking
There will be more parking near the museum entrancebut we'll keep the
walking trail with its links to the old plank road for those who prefer to
begin their iron journey with a scenic walk.
Demonstration Area
Outside, there will be an activities area for performances. Nearby,
visitors can play or watch horseshoes or boccie.
