

Arthur Gilson's trade was broom-making. He worked for the Lockway & Stark Company
in Benton Harbor from the early 1900s until 1929. Gilson made brooms on his own throughout the
Great Depression and into the 1940s. He died in 1964. His wife Edna donated the
broom-making machine to the museum in 1968. The object on the right is a broom vise.
