Royal Arcanum Ribbon and Medal

Royal Arcanum Ribbon and MedalThe Royal Arcanum, a fraternal benefit society, organized in Massachusetts in 1872. This ribbon badge includes a crown and a ten-pointed star medallion connected by a pale blue grosgrain ribbon. The stylized letters on the center of the medallion—MVC—represent the motto of the society, "Mercy, virtue and charity." The ribbon badge dates from between 1875 and 1920.

The Royal Arcanum provides fraternal events, educational programs community service and insurance in some states (currently not including Michigan) and two Canadian provinces. It was an active organization in Lansing, Michigan, at one time—see our Lansing 1897 exhibit.
