Mystery Plate

Capitol Mystery Plate This plate in the state government section of the Lansing 1897 exhibit commemorates the capitol. From the collections of the Michigan Historical Museum, there is no information about it in the curator's files. Either the plate was donated without any information being given, or the information was lost many years ago. The plate probably dates from between 1880 and 1915. An inscription below the picture of the capitol building reads: STATE CAPITOL, LANSING, MICH. The ironstone plate is six and three-quarter inches in diameter and has a chip on the bottom edge. There may be other plates like it, and someone may have more information about their origin and use. If you can solve the mystery, please contact the Michigan Historical Museum, using the link below.
