Establishing a Family

William C. Goodridge was the free son of a slave mother and a white father. In 1827, when he was a barber in York, Pennsylvania, he married Evalina Wallace of Baltimore, Maryland.

Their son Glenalvin was the first photographer in the family. He took this picture of his father, William, sometime before 1862.
