Activities

Students from Holt (MI) Elliott Elementary School pose for a photo on the rustic steps in the exhibit gallery.Enterprising Images is an exhibit about photography and a family of African American photographers who lived in York, Pennsylvania, and East Saginaw, Michigan.

Visit the exhibit using the links at the left. Then have some fun with photography using these activities.

  • What Do You See? Can you "read" a historical photo and solve its mysteries?

  • Two Ways of Life. Would you have wanted to live in a Victorian home or in a lumberjack's shanty in the 1880s? Peek into each via photographs.

  • Wish You Were Here! Create a "view" postcard for your town.

These photographs are referred to in the Lansing Newspapers in Education, Inc., "Time Traveler" page (Lansing State Journal, November 8, 2000) and in the accompanying Teacher's Guide. They can be viewed here or printed for use with the activities in those pages.
