Michiganians in the Great War

World War 1 exhibit in the Michigan Historical MuseumThe United States entered World War I on April 6, 1917, when Congress declared war against the Central Powers, which included Germany and Austria-Hungary.

During the Great War, 175,000 Michiganians served in the armed forces. About 5,000 Michigan soldiers died and 15,000 were wounded. (Michigan's total population was 3,668,412 in 1920.)
