It's March Madness!
The Michigan Historical Museum special exhibit,
Hometown Hoops, traces the evolution of high school
basketball in Michigan in the 20th century. A boys' state championship
is established after World War I. Girls' basketball goes in and out of
vogue. More and more people become involved in presenting the sportnot
just players, parents and coaches, but fans, ticket takers, scorers,
janitors and others. High school basketball becomes a part of a
community's identity.

In the photo, museum artist Rich Geer paints a mural in the gallery. The
mural features the symbol of the Frankenmuth Eagles and is the
background for a display about school nicknames and mascots.
