Hometown Hoops was developed by the Michigan Historical Museum as part of the "Summer of Sports 2003" collaboration among seven museums in Michigan. Other museums presenting sports exhibits during 2003 included the Detroit Historical Museum, The Henry Ford, Public Museum of Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo Valley Museum, Mackinac State Historic Parks and the Alfred P. Sloan Museum.
